Located on the southern coast of Oman, about an hour’s drive from Salalah, Extra Divers Mirbat offers a true hidden gem for divers and travelers seeking oriental charm without the crowds. The picturesque town and its idyllic bays are perfect for those looking for an authentic experience. The dive center is situated directly on the beach of the Wyndham Garden Hotel, and boat trips depart from the hotel’s floating jetty. Boat dives are offered to the surrounding pristine dive sites, and guests staying at nearby hotels receive a complimentary transfer to Extra Divers Mirbat.
Please note: The dive centres are closed due to weather conditions from 1st June to 30th September each year.
Diving/Dive spots
Around 20 dive sites are within easy reach of Extra Divers Mirbat. The reefs are teeming with life, featuring slipper lobsters, lobsters, rays, octopuses, and large pharaoh cuttlefish. Two shipwrecks – the Chinese Wreck and the Marriott Wreck – serve as artificial reefs attracting schools of fish. Turtles, torpedo rays, blue-spotted rays, eagle rays, guitar rays, and a variety of moray eels, including the rare dragon moray, are additional highlights.
Dive sites are suitable for all skill levels. Most sites are relatively shallow, with a maximum depth of 20–25 meters. The southern Oman coast does not feature steep drop-offs or reefs deeper than 30 meters. From November, dolphins can often be seen in large schools and may be accompanied by boat trips. During the dolphin season, daily snorkeling trips are offered. Between January and April, there is even a chance to spot whales or orcas from the dive boat.
The dive center is located near the spa on the way to the beautiful beach at Wyndham Garden. Facilities include a reception, shop, classroom, two bathrooms with showers, outdoor showers, workshop, compressor room, equipment storage, rinse tanks, and a terrace. Daily boat dives are conducted with a fiberglass speedboat, departing from the Wyndham Garden floating jetty (in exceptional cases, from the nearby Mirbat harbor). Snorkeling trips are also available, including visits to the nearby Bird Island. Boats typically depart around 08:00 and return after two dives. Dive sites are 5–15 minutes away by boat. Afternoon dives can be arranged upon request (minimum number of participants required).
